Any suggestions on how to crochet a M&M pattern for an adult Halloween costume?

You can use chunky yarn and a big hook... which will go faster.
You can crochet a simple rectangle for each shoulder to attach two circles together and affix a tie to each side. Tie the bow to keep it even.
Embroider a white m or affix a felt one with Velcro or stitching!

I'd crochet a large circle twice. Join them together but leave space for the head and arms to pop out. Add on the letter M in the middle. Here are the patterns guides for both:
