Determining Value of a Howard Miller Grandfather Clock?

Determining Value of a Howard Miller Grandfather Clock? - clock between two windowsWe are selling my grandfather's estate in a few days, but have been having a difficult time determining the value of his grandfather clock. I haven't seen the same model posted for sale online or any websites that give me an idea of its cost. It is an Adams, Presidential Collection model 610-874 of Howard Miller manufacturer. It is no longer made and sold so I can't even price it brand new. It's in great condition other than a few numbers that came loose and need to be re-adhered. Any idea of it's worth?

So sorry for the loss of your grandfather and need to sell off his estate. That is so hard!

This clock is lovely. I have seen this particular model sit unsold in the $1000 range--but clocks like these are very supply and demand driven.

If it was mine, I would start at $2500 and then if you are doing half off after 2 PM (which I always did when I ran estate sales) you would be at $1250, and then take best offer.

Be sure that the person has a way to move it--as these are super fragile and can be easily damaged if someone does not have the right way to transport.

It needs to be wrapped in industrial plastic wrap, then bubble wrap, then blankets for the ideal transport. Lay it flat, wood side down (so it needs to be in large truck or van).

Best wishes on your sale! Post back how it goes!

P.S. If it doesn't sell, while some my call it blasphemous, there is a market to take it all apart and sell it off for parts (someone has the finial up for grabs on eBay at the moment for 195.00 and it says they have sold some at that price).

People who have these clocks want to repair them with original parts so that is why the parts sometimes are worth more than the whole. Just a thought!

You can find this model and very similar models listed for sale for $2500-$8,000 but no signs of any sales.
Most of these listings will be stores that specialize in items like this and people will generally pay more to a store than to an individual.

This company even puts their clocks on YouTube - price $3,500.

Listed prices will always be high but retail price in a normal estate sale (not a notable collection with a named company doing an advertised sale) will be lucky to arrange a sale for even 1/3rd of these prices.
Try your sale and if no one buys you might try talking to some antique stores within say 100 miles of your sale as they may pay more and move it without a hassle.

Just other sites for information.

This is a listing that is no longer for sale but has some excellent information about the clock.

This is a really nice clock and people try selling them in the range of $1000-3000. A lot of people will list them high or even do an auction bid on them. I am taking that you want to have an estate sale in your home and want to price this clock accordly so hopefully you can sell this to someone who is interested. Times are hard right now and I am not sure how much a person would actually pay for one of these clocks. If this was mine I would want a very fair price for the clock and then I would also take into consideration how much I would actually spend on buying one of t these for my home.

I would try and start the pricing in the middle of what other people are asking for this clock online. Start off asking around $1500 for the clock and see if you have anyone that is interested in buying this from you. You can always adjust your price if someone makes you a decent offer.
