Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp. salt

Directions:

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and beat well. Dissolve cocoa in 1/2 cup hot water, beat smooth and add to mixture. Add milk and vanilla. Add soda and salt, sifted with flour 3 times, beat well. Pour into greased layer pans. Bake at 350 degrees F for 25-30 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 2 tsp. water
  • 12 marshmallows, cut into pieces
  • 1 devil's food cake mix
  • 1 cup nuts

Directions

In 9x13 inch pan, mix well the first 4 ingredients. Mix cake as the directions on box. Pour over the first 4 items already in pan. Top with nuts. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45-50 minutes. Serve with ice cream.

Any one Remember KATE SMITH and GOD BLESS AMERICA? Here is her Devil's Food Cake Recipe.

Ingredients

Melt chocolate over boiling water; add 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup buttermilk and stir over boiling water until well blended. Let cool. Sift flour once, then measure.

Add baking powder, soda and salt and sift together 3 times. Cream butter add 1-1/4 cups sugar gradually and cream together until light and fluffy. Add eggs beat well.

Add about 1/4 of flour mixture and mix; add chocolate mixture and blend. Add remaining flour alternately with buttermilk, a small amount at a time, beating after each addition. Add vanilla. Bake in greased 16X10X2 inch pan,

(I think you could use two round cake pans now) in 350 degrees F oven for 35 minutes or until done. When cold cut in half and put together as a two layer cake. Spread center, top and sides with Chocolate frosting.

Chocolate Frosting:

Melt chocolate in top of double boiler. Add condensed milk gradually, mixing well; then add water and salt. Blend. Cook 3 minutes over rapidly boiling water, stirring constantly. Remove from fire. Add vanilla. Cool

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 1/4 cups firmly packed brown sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled

  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2 tsp. vanilla

Directions

In a large bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar. Add eggs. Beat well. Add melted chocolate. Sift together dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture alternately with the buttermilk. Blend well. Add boiling water and vanilla. Mix well. Mixture will be thin. pour into greased and floured 9x13 inch cake pan, plus eight cupcake liners. For cake, bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees F. For cupcakes, bake 20 minutes at same temperature.
