Dry Your Own Herbs
Fresh herbs are great, and it is good to have some dried ones to preserve your summer bounty, or to prevent fresh ones from spoiling before they can be used up. Some people freeze herbs, but they may be ruined with a power outage. Dried herbs stay good for longer.
If you have a microwave, paper towels and a few minutes, you can do this.
Total Time: 10 minutes
- Paper towels
- Separate your herbs from the stem.
- Lay out the herbs on a paper towel.
- Cover the herbs with another paper towel.
- Microwave for 30 seconds at full power and let cool.
- If the paper towel is damp, replace it.
- Repeat the procedure for 30 second intervals.
- When the herbs are easy to crumble, they are ready. My parsley took 3 30-second rounds.
- Store in an airtight container or ziplock bag with as much air squeezed out as possible.
