Dyeing a Polyester and Suede Face Wrap?

I have a black 100% polyester face wrap with a patch of suede on it and am wondering how to dye it. I want to dye it a desert tan color, but am not sure how to do it.

You could dye it successfully with Rit dye in a water bath. The suede will come out a darker shade

It is difficult to change a black item to a lighter color - any fabric - but polyester is sometimes unpredictable and suede???

You cannot use chlorine bleach on polyester but you can use a dye remover and then try to dye it tan.

Problems: I have no idea how suede will react to the dye remover or the tan dye so maybe someone will make comments/suggestions on the suede.

The thread in the wrap may be a different material (?) and will many times remain the original color and I do not think you can do anything about that (if it happens).

I'm not sure this is possible. Changing a dark item to a lighter one with dyeing is hard enough, but polyester is pretty resistant to dyeing or bleaching, because it is a synthetic fabric that just sort of can degrade when confronted with harsh chemicals

you could try making a really diluted acrylics wash with something like Golden Fluid acrylics and see if that adds some colour while not losing too much flexibility www.dickblick.com/.../

I wouldn't try this. The materials and the color (dying dark to light) is a recipe for disaster.

Do they make the item in the lighter color to start? May be best to just try to find one in the color to start vs. risking ruining what you have.

Sorry. This is just my opinion. I wouldn't do it.

Hi,
Polyester requires very hot water in order for the dye to take. Here is a video which explains some special considerations when dying polyester. I am not sure how the suede will look, whether it will be lighter or darker, but please let us know how you did with the process ;)
