This is an easy and pretty way to make a unique vase using scraps of colourful fabric and a glass bottle. This one was a soft drink bottle, but a beer bottle, sauce bottle, or similar style will do just fine.

It is perfect for displaying one or two blooms (or your Valentine's rose if you are lucky enough to receive one!)

  • white glue
  • small dish to mix the glue
  • scraps of fabric
  • paintbrush
  • cleaned glass bottle
  • scissors
  • ribbon or lace

  1. Pour a little white glue into the dish.

  3. Mix in approximately the same quantity of water.
  4. Cut the fabric scraps into small pieces of varying shapes and sizes.
  5. Immerse a few fabric pieces in the glue mixture.
  6. Apply the glue soaked fabric to the bottle and use the brush to smooth it out.
  7. Continue to haphazardly apply more pieces making sure they completely overlap.

  9. Alternatively you can apply glue to the bottle first...
  10. ... then apply dry fabric.
  11. Then paint more glue onto the fabric with the paintbrush. You choose which method you find easiest.
  12. When the bottle is completely covered, apply another coat of glue to smooth out any lumps and to make sure there are no dry spots.

  14. It will probably take about a day to dry. The glue will gravitate to the bottom so leave it on a protective surface while it is drying.
  15. When it has dried, check for any parts where the bottle label shows through and apply a further piece of glue soaked fabric to cover it up.
  16. Tie something pretty around the neck and add one or two flowers or a sprig.
