This time of year many are thinking of losing weight, changing diets, and looking for different foods to eat. Many dieters will shy away from carbs because carbs are seen as being the culprit in weight going up instead of down. But, doing away with carbs or eating the wrong ones can mean you may be robbing yourself of important nutrients.
Here are a few ideas on making better carb choices:
What about eating better carbs? Salmon, avocadoes, eggs, oatmeal, nuts, and seeds are some good choices. Potatoes, which are high in fiber, and are quite filling is a good choice. They are a good choice but, too many eat them fried in oil and drowned in salt. Or even in chip form. Try them baked with a little olive oil and sprinkled with herbs.
Carbs come with fiber with is not digestible yet it is important in our digestion. It has been shown in studies that soluble fiber is very useful in reducing high cholesterol levels and losing weight.
Don't drink your carbs. Eating our fruit raw keeps the antioxidants and nutrients intact whereas drinking them in a smoothie can reduce the nutritional content in the juicing process.
Of course, how you eat these carbs is very important. But, also the amount, or portions, should be kept in check. Instead of eating on a large plate change to a smaller one and then the smaller portion won't be so hard to take.
As a final note: Eating fibrous foods will help to clear out the bowel and drinking more water will wash any oxidants and bad foods out of the system. These two acts will cause some weight loss.
