Could anyone give me suggestions or advice on locating used newspapers for weed prevention in my vegetable garden? I am having a difficult time finding a resource for used newspaper. Every search leads to a mail order site.

Put an ad in Freecycle or Craigslist. You can also walk around neighborhoods on the night before newspaper collections and get them then.
if you are anywhere near a smaller (or even larger) restaurant, service station that has a cafe, even a Subway or Dunkin Donuts you could ask them to save you their throw away (from customers) newspapers for a day or more - but - be sure you pick them up when on scheduled time. They may even save you their coffee grounds for a day or so.
You could call the local newspaper place and ask them if you can have their tossed out old papers they over printed in the trash can.
Ask on a facebook swap shop or your local library to save them.
