Finding the Reason for a Dog's Sudden Death?

Today my 3 month old miniature Dachshund past away. Yesterday my wife said he was throwing up all of his food in chunks like he wasn't even chewing it. She said she was told to try and give him a little bit of water and if he could keep it down to check his vomit and see if it had blood. There was no blood and all was good so we withheld his food for about 12 hrs and tried again. He didn't want to eat his food, but drank a little water and was just throwing that up too.

So I called the vet and made an appointment for the morning. I woke up this morning and I went to go check on him and he was gone. I broke out in pain and tears. He was my little favorite and we have 3 other dogs. I'm devastated. He was so happy all the time and always playful. He was so young. What happened to my baby?

My condolences on the loss of your dog. He could have had some undiagnosed physical issue or illness. He could have eaten something poisonous. Your vet could give you other explanations.

Oh my. You have my deepest and heartfelt condolences on your loss. My first Doxie was a mini so I feel your pain. Sadly like with humans you may never know why G-d called him across the rainbow bridge. You can see if your vet has any ideas. I know from having doxies for many years they are prone to dental abcesses, neck and back issues and ear infections.

Prayers for your family and you. Please consider grief counseling if needed. Pets are our family and losing one, especially suddenly, can be very stressful.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is doubly hard to lose those little ones that are so full of life. Had your puppy been vaccinated for parvo? It is one of the 1st round of puppy shots usually. It does begin with vomiting and diarrhea and can kill very quickly. It is so hard to really know what happened. Your Vet may be able to tell you more.
