Getting a Black Snake to Leave the Basement?

I love black snakes in the outdoors. However I recently found a 5 foot snakeskin in my unfinished basement. There is a Frenchdoor that we enter and exit in the basement. I know he's still there as we have had no mice upstairs and living in 27 acres of woods gives us lots of mice. Will he come upstairs and kill my 10 lb. Morkie? What should I do? How do I get him back outside?

You can buy snake traps and then put the snake outside.

If you live in an area that is prone to snakes it might be a good idea to have a person come and trap the snake for you and remove it from your basement. Other than this you can go to a local hardware store and get a rodent trap. The animal goes inside and can't come back out. If you go this way you will need to buy some small mice to put in the trap.

This way the snake will go there to feed and then you can pick up the trap and let the snake go outside. If you are afraid for your dog I would get the snake out of your basement as soon as possible. Make sure you keep the door closed to your home at all times and I would put some towels in the crack of the door so the snake can not get up in your home.
