This is a simple fun toy to make with a happy face on one side and a sad face on the other. If you are no good with a needle and thread, that's OK, just use a marker pen to draw the mouth instead of stitching it. The rest is just tying knots, so no sewing involved. I used pearl barley to fill mine, but you could use any dried pulses - the bigger the better. Lentils for instance may fall out of the holes between the knots. Use a dinner plate if you want a bigger beanbag.
an old pillow case
ball point or marker pen
pink or red embroidery thread
a small handful of dried pulses (beans, peas, and lentils)
a side plate
Draw around the plate on the pillowcase.
Cut out the circle of cloth.
Cut another the same size.
Cut slits around the edge towards the centre. These must be long enough to be able to tie the tabs in a knot.
Embroider a smile using a running stitch or just draw it with a pen if you are not good at sewing.
Glue the wiggle eyes in place.
Make a sad face on the other circle.
Lay them on top of each other back to back, matching up the tabs.
Tie the front tabs to the back tabs.
Use double knots.
Once you are about three quarters around, fill your beanbag with the pulses and then finish the knotting.
Your beanbag is now ready to play with.
