Having Different Sized Dogs in the Same Home

A very small and very large dog touching noses.Although it's really cute to watch, people do need to realize that dogs have a funny mind-set. Chihuahuas and all other small breeds don't know they are small! They will go after the largest of "friends or foes" as if they were just as big.

And on the other side of the coin, most large dogs don't realize how big they are. They will want to sit on your lap (especially if there's another dog in the house that can sit there), and will play with the tiniest of pets without realizing that they can really hurt them without meaning too. They try to be gentle, but their size alone makes it dangerous for the little one.

My mother used to breed Yorkies and if they weren't on a leash outside they'd go after every dog in the neighborhood. And I have had large dogs (Labs, Goldens, and Shepherds) that wanted to sit on my lap, or would try to play with tiny kittens or whatever. Knock on wood, I never had a problem, but people need to be aware the danger is there and be extra vigilant about watching.

This actually goes for most pets, not just dogs and kittens.
