How to Make Perfect Soft-Boiled Eggs

I love eggs that are perfectly cooked through on the outside and just slightly soft in the middle (not runny)! They are velvety smooth and have the perfect flavour.

Boil water in a large saucepan over high heat. Gently drop in eggs one at a time. Adjust heat to medium-high and cook eggs for 6.5 minutes. Transfer eggs to a bowl of ice water and allow them to bathe for a couple minutes. Gently crack the eggs all over and peel from the wide end where there is a big pocket of air. Serve straight away.

To keep in the fridge, peel all the eggs and place in an airtight container. Use within 3 days.

I remember my granddaddy eating his eggs cooked like this. He would crack them open with a spoon and then spoon the egg out of the shell.

Ah yes! My dad did that, too! He'd dip little pieces of bread into them. We call that egg and soldiers!
