I have tiny dark bugs that bite at night. What are they and how do I get rid of them? I live in central California. I am being eaten alive by these bugs. Do they carry anything I should know about?

They could be some kind of mite. Out the bugs in a sealed plastic bag and take it to a place that sells pesticides. They will identify the bug and sell you the right product to get rid of it.
The pix is blurry. I find it easier to figure out what is biting me using the pictures of the bite....Do your bites look like any of these (scroll through the images in this site). I am thinking chiggers, which were the worst bites I have ever experienced:
