If You Are Healthy, You Can Still Donate Blood

I keep seeing Internet notifications saying if you are healthy you can still donate blood. Reminds me of the time I gave blood. I went to the clinic and was greeted by a nice elderly nurse who directed me to a seat. She said while I was waiting she would need to get some information from me. With clipboard and pen ready, she began to ask questions.

She had a pleasant smile and a very nice attitude. And though she was neatly dressed and appeared very clean, something was definitely wrong. As she stood close and continued to ask questions, I began to smell a terrible odor.

It became so bad, I was thinking to myself, 'How in the world could they let this woman practice here'? Perhaps they don't know? Maybe she has soiled her underwear and is not aware that she has?

I was becoming nauseous. With the questions over, she directed me to a gurney and told me I could lie down. She said someone would be with me soon to draw my blood. She thanked me for donating and left.

I was so glad she left. Now, I could catch a breath of fresh air. Or so I thought. Then I noticed the smell was much worse than ever. Surely a blood drive facility wouldn't be this filthy.

Then I noticed. This doesn't smell like human stool, it smells like pure dog sh*t. I hadn't laid down yet, I was sitting on the gurney with my legs dangling down the side.

Yep! I tool a look at my shoes. One the sole of one was a big juicy dog turd squashed and stuck to the bottom. I thought, 'Oh, gosh. What I was thinking of that nurse, she was surely thinking of me'!

I bent over and removed one shoe and slid it far under the gurney, hoping the smell would die down a bit. As I was untying the other shoe, a technician walked in and started laughing. She said, "Oh no, Sir! You don't have to take your shoes off. We take the blood from your arm".

Reluctantly, I had to explain my problem and hope I didn't have to face that sweet elderly nurse on the way out.
