Have you seen one of these on your trees? Just curious as this is one of the kinda "oddball" moths. They are not generally a problem but they can almost destroy the good looks of a small tree.

Here is a comment from a University site:

Small trees with limited foliage may be completely defoliated by the brood from eggs of a single female. Damage is primarily aesthetic. Defoliation occurs in late season and healthy oaks generally refoliate in the following spring and survive. Loss of foliage, however, retards growth and may result in some dieback of twigs.

It's an insect that is located on the eastern coast of the United States and eats oak trees.

Also called "Anisota stigma" - moth that feeds on oak.
