I have a Singer DL17 sewing machine. Can anyone tell me how to insert a new sliding plate on my machine? The plate will not slide in.

There are grooves where the plate slides in. They must be lined up on both sides.
I tried lining up the sides as responder indicated but that didn't work.
I had husband check it out and he managed to get it on. The problem was the underlying spring had to be slightly lifted in order for the slide plate to connect. Thanks ever so much for your help......
