I love saltine crackers, but lately I am having a terrible time storing them. I do not over buy. I buy a new box and store them in a sealed storage bag when I open the first sleeve. I have tried the glass storage containers, and putting in a slice of bread or an apple.
Within a week, the saltines have a horrible smell and taste. I am very frustrated with constantly throwing my crackers out to the birds. Any solution will be greatly appreciated.
I don't think putting the crackers in with bread of apples is a good idea. I cover opened sleeves in foil or put them in an air-tight container and never have a problem. Hope this helps!
Freeze them and take out when you need them. I have a Tupperware cracker keeper, but I'm not sure if they make it anymore.
I've tried everything to keep saltine crackers fresh including storing them in an airtight container, doesn't work. I believe the only way to keep them fresh would be to vacuum seal them. I going to try placing them in the freezer and see if that works.
I place a Eva Dry desiccant (with electric regeneration) in the plastic cracker container which keeps the humidity around 25% (nice and crisp) while the room today is a humid summer 70%
I use bread to soften cookies
