Chickens and wild birds seem to have a positive genius for drowning themselves in cattle, horse, and other large watering tanks during dry weather. However, if you'll float a small board in such a container, the fowl will be able to climb up on the wood and save themselves.

'A positive genius' - I love it. I'm applying that one anytime I can henceforth. So true, water can be such a danger. Great thought to provide for escape.
