Keeping Kitty Out of Your Christmas Tree

Gold Post Medal for All Time! 555 Posts

Christmas tree with colored balloons.I have been dealing with my year old kitty climbing into and knocking over my Christmas tree until I came up with this idea. I blew up balloons and added them to the tree. She jumped in and accidentally popped one causing her to jump off immediately!

It stopped her from jumping into it again, so now I can finish decorating it, but I think I will still leave some in the tree, just in case.

:D

Definite thumbs up on this! And those balloons look rather festive, I think I'll try this and leave some on for the entire season.

I have heard it is quite dangerous yo have balloons around where your pets can pop them and possibly eat them. Isn't that an emergency surgery?

When I used to have cats, i would put Orange peels under the tree. You can hide them under the top skirt or put them in the water, Cats hate citrus smells and will keep their distance.

I had this problem 5 years ago. Easy solution...get some refillable small ornament size catnip toys. Then give them their own small tree. I got mine at a garage sale. Decorate their tree with all of their own toys so when they tear it up or knock it over they are just playing and knocking over and tearing up their own tree.

Nothing broken...nothing destroyed...you just hang the ornaments back up and stand the tree back up and they have alot of fun! I also tied some large jingle bells inside toward the middle of the tree. They love it!!!

I recently adopted 3 young cats from the local shelter. Since they get into everything, I tried the balloons. Did not work. They love the balloons. They pull them out of the tree and play until they pop them then they go back for another.

Tried this last Christmas - my cats LOVED the balloons. Did not scare them at all. Thought they were great new toys and would climb the tree to get them out and play with them until they popped and then go back for another.
