Killing Blackberries Naturally?

I am trying to get rid of blackberry bushes that have invaded a blueberry field. I don't want to use anything chemical and have been cutting them out, but of course they grow back. Any thoughts on how to get rid of them without digging out roots would be greatly appreciated!

Do you water this blackberry bush?

The best solution would be to cut and remove as much root as you can. And of course, dig out everything but you want to avoid that route. Can anyone help you?

Make sure you till the soil frequently to discourage new growth. You can also put a layer of black plastic and 4-5 inches of mulch.

Did you happen to know that vinegar is a homemade organic weed killer that won't damage your soil or surrounding plants. This would be the best if you purchased several gallons of vinegar.

You'll need to cut the plant down to the root ball, dig around the root ball and add your vinegar. This should do the trick and kill the roots of the plants and any new growth that the plants are producing.

I live in the Pacific NW and we are always fighting blackberries. You have to dig them up if you are not going to use any type of poison. What I would recommend is to cut it off at the ground level whenever you see any new growth.

When the blueberry growing season is done, I would carefully dig up the blueberry bushes, remove the blackberry root and then replant.

Good luck, they are difficult.

Dissolve 2cups salt in 1gallon vinegar, apply with hand sprayer on blackberry leaves avoiding the blueberry plants, this also eventually kills the roots. NO DIGGING!!
