I would like to know to double crochet. Do you have any suggestions about how to do this?

Call your local nursing homes and talk to the activity director. I bet you can find a resident who would be very eager to teach you. I worked at one in college and we had residents who held classes at the home teaching people from the community crochet, knitting and quilting.
