Making Satin Thread on Broderie Anglaise Less Shiny?

I got some broderie anglaise online which, as it turns out, is hemmed with very shiny satin thread. I'd like to make the thread more matte. What's the best way to achieve this?

I am a quilter and very familiar with that type of thread. I am afraid that anything you would do to make the thread more matte would weaken the thread. The best thing you can do, is what I have had to do at times when I make an unfixable mistake on a quilt, is to convince myself it is just fine, and in fact great the way it is. Blessings to you.

There is no way to make a thread or fabric less shiny.
