Making a Plastic Egg Submersible Submarine

Submarine Craft and ExperimentThis is a free and fun craft/experiment that my toddler son really enjoyed! He made an experiment out of this by seeing how many coins it takes for the submarine to sink (it was a trial and error experiment).



  • plastic egg
  • bowl and water
  • pipe cleaner
  • assorted coins
  • circle stickers
  • scissors
  • Sharpie
Submarine Craft and Experiment - supplies


  1. Place the amount of coins inside the egg that your child thinks will be enough to sink the submarine.
  2. Submarine Craft and Experiment - place coins inside the egg
  3. Decorate your egg with circle dots and go around the dots with a Sharpie pen.
  4. Submarine Craft and Experiment - decorate the egg with circle stickers
    Submarine Craft and Experiment - go around the edge of the stickers with a Sharpie
  5. Cut a piece of pipe cleaner and bend for the periscope. Then hot glue to top of the egg.
  6. Submarine Craft and Experiment - cut and bend a piece of pipe cleaner to make a periscope
    Submarine Craft and Experiment - hot glue to the top of the egg

  7. You are ready to drop the submarine into a bowl of water. The experiment is to see how many coins it'll take for the submarine to sink.
