Ornamental Pepper Plant

I bought an ornamental pepper plant 3 weeks ago. From the day I brought it home it has not done well. The peppers are shriveled up along with the leaves. I now have it indoors. The first night, I had left it outside. I think it suffered cold damage. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you,

Hi Joey,

You don't say where you live or how cold the temperature was when you left it outside, but it sounds like your plant is off to plant heaven. :-( Sorry. They are very frost tender and don't like cold temps below 55 degrees F or so. Take a look at these sites.

Ornamental Pepper Plant

Joey,
I have had the same problem and did not put my plant outside. I keep watering it and it still looks pathetic. When I first brought it home, I got a few white flowers and then one new red pepper bloomed but since then it has been doing the same as yours. I actually came to this website looking for help. It was so beautiful at the store when I bought it. Sorry I couldn't help you.

Have just purchased a nice ornamental pepper plant, it looks beautiful and we keep it only inside, of course. Have no experience with it and would appreciate any advise. Regards from Hans in Canada. (10/03/2007)

I know the reason

I have the same plant and it's leaves were turning black and they fell. I've researched and I found that it should get a full sunlight and it should not be overwatered and the soil must not dry between waterings. (07/27/2008)

Ornamental Pepper Plant

I have an ornamental pepper plant. I was wondering if the peppers are edible because my grandmother's birthday is in a couple days and she loves peppers but I'm not sure if I should still give it to her. Please reply soon enough so I can figure something out. (09/28/2008)

Don't eat the peppers. They are just ornamental. The peppers are supposed to be too spicy for people to eat. (10/16/2008)

I'm not sure if you can cook them, but don't eat them off the plant. Because they are hot and you'll regret if for at least an hour. But when I ate one, it didn't take long till my throat was burning hot along with my mouth, started hiccuping, and started to tear. No, I'm not weak to the peppers. I can eat jalapeno peppers with no problem but ornamental peppers are hot. If you do eat one, drink milk, or iced tea. (10/26/2008)
