Pack with What You Have

Gold Post Medal for All Time! 969 Posts

Packing breakables with soft crafts and materials.I am moving. I have lots of breakables, but also lots of yarn and soft craft supplies. Tonight I found that you can mix them and save on newspaper, time, bulk and more.

Just put your yarn or soft items in the bottom and sides of your containers, and the breakable/s in the center. They will be safer than pieces of paper and you are making double use of your space.

N-JOY!

It has been a long time since I last moved, and I don't plan to move again anytime soon. However, we recently needed to send a package to our son in basic training and didn't have any bubble wrap or newspaper. So, I grabbed a lot of the plastic shopping bags we accumulate (in spite of using the cloth recyclable bags we have, and I make) I wadded the bags up and stuffed them around what we were sending. The items we sent were not fragile. Formerly when I packed some keepsakes for storage.

I used plastic bags to wrap around the items before using shredded paper and newspaper. This prevented the newspaper from leaving ink on the items. I would not recommend this for storing in a place that can get very hot (like an attic), as they may tend to melt. Regardless of the recycling and repurposing we do; plastic bags seem to multiply. I even crochet with them. lol They make great tote bags for taking to the pool (as well as many other items).

And don't forget the mismatched socks in the rag bag for extra cushion.
