Paper Fish - montage of three views of the paper fishWhen there's pure boredom and you have nothing but colored paper, turn it into something that will make you smile. Here's one idea that came to my mind that satisfied my boring day. This craft is also good to try out with your kids.

Supplies:

Paper Fish - supplies
 

Steps:

  1. Create a triangle by folding one whole sheet of art paper.
  2. Paper Fish - fold a piece of paper to create a triangle
     
  3. Cut off the excess part.
  4. Paper Fish - cut off the excess
     
  5. Open the triangle. Now, fold the two sides towards the center fold. It should look like this.
  6. Paper Fish - open the triangle and fold the sides in to look like this
     
  7. Put it back into the previous triangle fold. Put your scissors on its tip (where the fold marks meet) then start cutting strips from the outer edge that should stop at the center fold. See photo.
  8. Paper Fish - fold back into a triangle and cut strips up to the center fold

  9. Leave at least a 2 and 1/2 inch space at the end of the cuts.
  10. Paper Fish - stop cutting leaving a space 2 1/2 inches from the edge
     
  11. On that wide space, cut out a curve on its tip. This will be the face of the fish.
  12. Paper Fish - cut a curve on the open space for the space
     
  13. Cut out two white small circles and paste them on to the face. Make sure to position the circles properly. Then draw a large black dot in the center part of each white circle. Now, you have its eyes.

    Paper Fish - glue in place and use the marker to add the pupils
     
  15. Flip the fish over and paste one triangle to the other. See photo.

  17. It should form something like this.

  19. Lightly press the center of the face down.
  20. Paper Fish - lightly press the center of the head down as shown
     
  21. Cut two small oval shapes out of a different colored piece of paper.
  22. Paper Fish - two pink paper ovals
     
  23. Glue them on the sides below the head of the fish.
  24. Paper Fish - glue on the sides below the head of the fish
     
  25. Take another color and cut out a heart shape.
  26. Paper Fish - from a third color cut out a heart shape

  27. Paste it onto the tip of the tail.
  28. Paper Fish - glue it in place under the tip of the tail
     
  29. Measure the width of the mouth and then cut a tongue shaped piece with the same color as the body.
  30. Paper Fish - measure the width of the mouth and cut a tongue shaped piece in the same color as the fish
     
  31. Attach it on the lower part of the mouth.
  32. Paper Fish - attach to the lower part of the mouth
     
  33. Curl the body as if the fish is moving.
  34. Paper Fish - curl the body as if the fish is moving
     
  35. Enjoy playing!
