Paper Octopus - close up of finished octopusThis cute octopus is a good rainy day craft for children old enough to handle scissors and marker pens. I've made mine sea green, but you can decorate yours any way you want.

Supplies:

Paper Octopus - supplies
 

Steps:

  1. Cut a piece of paper about 3 inches longer than your tube and wide enough to wrap around it.
  2. Paper Octopus - cut a piece of paper to cover the tube
     
  3. Draw wavy lines diagonally across the paper to look like underwater ripples.
  4. Paper Octopus - draw wavy lines to look like ripples
     
  5. Apply glue down the length of the tube.
  6. Paper Octopus - apply glue to the length of the tube
     
  7. Stick one edge of the paper to the tube.
  8. Paper Octopus - stick one edge of paper to the tube

  9. Wrap the paper around the tube and stick the other edge in place.
  10. Paper Octopus - wrap paper around the tube
     
    Paper Octopus - stick down the other end
     
  11. Cut wide slits at the bottom for tentacles. We all know that octopuses have 8 tentacles, but don't worry about getting the exact number.
  12. Paper Octopus - cut wide slits for the tentacles
     
  13. Use the edge of your scissors to make the tentacles curl. Go gently so as not to tear the paper.
  14. Paper Octopus - use the scissors to curl the tentacles

  15. Use plenty of glue to stick the eyes in place.

  17. Give your octopus a big happy smile with your marker pen
