The completed pizza wall hanging. This was a labor of love. I joined a wreath addicts group and when these spoke forms became the new "it" craft, I casually mentions they looked like a pizza! Someone casually mentions I should make one. Challenge Accepted!

Total Time: 2 hours

Yield: 1

Supplies:

  • 1 Bike spoke wire form
  • 1 yd Pizza fabric
  • 1 Scissors
  • 1 Thread and needle
  • 1 Hot glue
  • 3 Chenille stems
  • 2 oz Yarn and hook
  • 1 Large white button
  • Tan paint
  • Brush
Supplies for making the pizza wall hanging.

Steps:

  1. I couldn't find the perfect pizza fabric anywhere, so I purchased a pizza fabric pillow cover. It was the perfect size to cover the form, so I cut it out and went to work
  2. Laying the wire form over the pizza napkins.

  3. The first thing I had to do was paint the spokes tan, for the crust color. That was when I learned I need a paint "box" so I can use spray. I only had to do the center spokes. This took 3 coats.
  4. Painting the wire form white.

  5. Next was to crochet the chain for the edges. You might see the supplies shot, but I didn't end up using the fabric I thought I would. I crocheted a nice long chain, then began wrapping it around the edges to look like the crust.
  6. A crocheted chain in a wheat color.

Adding the crocheted chain to the wire form.

  7. Once the crust was done, I was ready to put the pizza backing on. It was easier if I did 12, 3, 6, and 9 like a clock. Then there were little or no wrinkles. Then I 'tacked' a few places on the back of the fabric, to secure the spokes to the fabric, with tan thread.
  8. The wire form with the crocheted chain attached to the outside.

  9. The little veggies were harder than planned. I was going to do them with felt, but couldn't find my stash. Then with foam, but the package I had didn't have the right colors. So I decided to crochet them, using the chenille stems to make the form more legit. I esp' needed them for the shape of the sliced pepper. I crocheted around the circle of stem, then shaped it for the slice. The same with the garlic and tomato. Adding the large white button to the center reminded me of that little plastic pizza saver that comes with the boxes. I added a hanger and it was done! N-JOY!!
  10. Balls of white, red and green yarn.

Pipe cleaners in red, white and green.

Crocheting vegetables to add to the pizza hanging.
