Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. poppy seed
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1 /2 cups oil
  • 1 1/2 tsp. butter flavoring
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 tsp. almond extract
  • milk
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar

Directions

Combine first 5 ingredients in bowl, mixing well. Add next 4 ingredients with 1 1/2 tsp. almond extract and 1 1/2 cups milk, beating well. Pour into 4 greased and floured 4x8 inch pans. Bake at 350 degrees F for 40 minutes. Blend confectioners' sugar with 2 Tbsp. milk and 1/2 tsp. almond extract. Drizzle over loaves.

Poppy Seed Bread

Ingredients

  • 3 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 2 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups oil
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. poppy seeds
  • 2 tsp. almond extract

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour 2 loaf pans. Beat together eggs, sugar, oil, and milk in bowl. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in separate bowl. Beat into egg mixture. Stir in poppy seeds and extract. Pour into two separate loaf pans. Bake 1 hour at 350 degree F. Bread is done with toothpick comes out clean. Cool bread in pans 10 minutes. Remove to racks placed on waxed paper. Spread with Orange Glaze while warm.

Orange Glaze

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup orange juice concentrate, thawed
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp. almond extract

Directions

Stir together all four ingredients while Poppy Seed Bread is baking ;set aside. After warm bread has been remove to racks, spread with Orange Glaze. Allow loaves to cool. Store at room temperature.

Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup poppy seeds
  • 1 1/4 cups prepared egg nog
  • 1 Tbsp. + 1 tsp. orange peel (grated)
  • 3 Tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1 egg

Directions

Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease bottom only of loaf pan or 2 small loaf pans. Mix all ingredients; beat 30 seconds. Pour into pans. Bake 9 inch loaf for 55 to 65 minutes and 8 inch loaf 55 to 60 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean; remove from pan. Cool completely on wire rack before slicing. Wrap and refrigerate up to 1 week. Makes 1 large loaf (24 slices) or 2 small loaves (16 slices)
