This 1990 collectible Enesco Small World of Music - 'Gone Fishing in the Good Old Summertime' music box sold for $24.95. It requires an adapter...(the individual selling the music box stated that an adapter was $5 extra):

This is a plug-in style with an on/off switch. It plays the tune "In the Good Old Summertime."
According to this one on Worthpoint, there was just a power adapter. No batteries. www.worthpoint.com/
I would inspect the back where the two screws are located. Often something like this can do both batteries and ac adapter. Also on the inside of that cover, it may give you the exact power used for this piece.
