Preserving Flowers in Oil?

In reference to this link here:

How long will flowers last preserved in oil? I assumed that pretty quickly they would wilt or at least they wouldn't last very long term. Does anyone know how long flowers would stay in tact without browning or wilting in the oil bottle?

I have a Dt Coke bottle that has had flowers sealed in it for over 10 years. They are intact but the colors are now faded. I think part of the reason they faded was the bottle has sat on the kitchen window seal.

Do you have to dry out the flowers before you place them in a bottle with oil? Or can you place them in a bottle of oil before they are dried out and dying, while still alive and pretty?
