Recovery Time for a Dog with Parvo?

How long does diarrhea in parvo dogs last? Two days ago my 5 month old puppy came down with parvo. She was vomiting and had diarrhea. I took her to the animal hospital and she stayed there a little over 24 hours. I brought her home with meds and tips to take care of her.

She is drinking lots of water on her own. I mixed Pedialyte in it. She won't eat on her own so I feed her through a syringe with wet dog food the vet gave me that contains meat and rice. The vet told me I can mix it with a little chicken broth to make it smoother going through the syringe. She is holding the food down, but still has diarrhea. How long will she continue to have diarrhea?

Recovery can take a few weeks. She is drinking and that is good. I would expect the diarrhea to end in a few days.

Never be afraid to touch base with a Vet, to confirm issues! Best to be cautious!

Sounds like you are doing everything right. Prayers for the pup for healing! You may want to circle back with the vet to get clarification on when you need to go back if the diarrhea continues.

Hydration is critical so that is positive. I know parvo survivors so just follow the vet's directions to the letter. That is key. Keep positive and keep the vet in the loop.

Post back with an update! Blessings!

Prayers for your sweet pup. Continue to keep him hydrated. Diarrhea can last a while as its his body expelling any toxins, etc from his sickness. I would expect it for the next few day, but if it persists, I would contact the vet. I would stay in contact with the vet in general while your pup is going through this.

Hope he/she gets to feeling much better very soon!!

Each dog is different and the recovery time can vary from dog to dog. This will depend on the treatment the dog is receiving. But the one good things here is your dog is drinking lots of water.

This is very positive. I had 2 dogs who came down with Parvo and one dog snapped back in just 3 days and the other dog had to be at the vets for 7 days before he snapped back.

If the diarrhea does not begin to improve in a couple days be sure and call your Vet back to discuss it.
