Recovery Time for a Dog with Parvo?

My Lab is suffering from parvovirus. I have been treating him from the very first day. He was vomiting and having severe diarrhea for the first 5 days. Later he stopped vomiting and was having only diarrhea. Today is his 8th day and again he started vomiting. What is the cause for this? Is he in danger?

Is he under vet care? Please let the vet know of any changes ASAP. I know it is expensive but the best outcomes I have seen for pups is those under strict vet guidance. They can guide you for everything that needs done based on the dogs weight and stage of the illness. I know many survivors and all had care (many at home), but all closely directed and monitered by the vet.

Prayers for a full recovery! Post back with updates.

Each dog is different and the treatment is about the same in all cases. The recovery time is normally based on how sick the dog was when it was taken to the vet. If the dog was really sick and had bloody stools then the recovery time is much longer. It can take around 8 to 14 days if the dog is really sick.

In some cases, the dog shows signs of improvement in just a few days. The dog needs a lot of liquid to keep them hydrated. It sounds like you should take him back to the vet immediately because he could be having a relapse and this can be dangerous.

It does not appear that your dog is under a vets care and if that's the case you really should take him to a vet as soon as possible because every hour counts toward his recovery. He may need to be administered fluids as dehydration is very serious.

This will be costly but 8 days and still vomiting is not a good sign - although every case is different but if this is a young puppy he probably needs help right now.

You can read some of the following suggestions but most of this is about treating a dog as soon as they are diagnosed with Parvo.

Each case is different, and this is a slow healing virus. Sometimes this takes weeks . Your fur baby needs to stay hydrated which is the most important thing. Follow your Vet's advice and follow the treatment care provided. If you feel it is severe see the Vet.
