Wood Stove surrounded by cut wood.You can seal cracks in a wood stove with this simple old-time homemade cement: Put a cupful of wood ashes in an old can, add about half a cup of salt, and slowly stir in enough water to make a stiff paste. Plaster the broken places in the metal with this mixture. Then build a fire and bake the sealer hard. Your repair job will last quite well if you don't bump the mended spots.
