Skewer Starburst Decor

Skewer Starburst Decor - top view down on the starburst projectStarburst decor is very trendy right now, but often comes with pretty silly price tags. It's quite easy to put one together, especially if you're like me and have loads of extra wooden skewers in the utensil drawer! All you need are some skewers, paint, and half a Styrofoam ball. I used an orange paint for the center, then a light orange, and a yellow on the sticks to make it look like it was a gradient explosion.

  9. Paint one half the length of the skewers with a base colour. This will be the colour closer to the ball, so paint the skewers with pointed ends this colour, as well.
  10. Skewer Starburst Decor - paint one half of the skewer length with your base color, the one closest to the ball

  11. Paint the other half the length of the skewers in the second colour. Use a skewer to keep rotating all the pieces to ensure they are coated in paint. Let dry.
  12. Skewer Starburst Decor - paint the other half with a second color

  13. Poke the Styrofoam ball with the skewers, starting from the center and working your way out. Use the pointed bits to drive nice holes into the foam for the skewers that have flat tips.
  14. Skewer Starburst Decor - begin at the center and begin poking the skewers into the ball, those with a pointed tip can be used to make a hole for the ones with a flat tip
