I recently bought a Roku smart TV and I noticed my cable company (Spectrum) has an app on there. I clicked on it, logged in and there was my cable account and channels. I checked my other smart TV and that app was not accessible. Apparently, Spectrum gave the rights to Roku or Comcast. I happened to have a Roku stick that I added to my already smart TV and, sure enough, there was the Spectrum app.
I then realized I do not need the cable box as long as I have wifi to stream from the app. I turned in both of my cable boxes, saving $15.00 a month in the rental fees. Also, there are no more ugly cable wires cluttering up the back of the TV. It also allowed me to move my TV's wherever I want without the annoyance of trying to hide the cable cord when running it across the other side of the room. No cable line, no box, no rental fee.

I had one of the dish networks as the cable in our area is extraordinarily high. Then I realized that after the promotional period expired - in our large home with multiple adults with TV's in bed rooms and living rooms - our full plan with HBO, Cinemax, and Showtime was almost $200 a month. We watch very little news and no sports, so we decided to try something different.

I did the same thing. One of my TVs is a Fire tv, so it has lots of apps available. On a other TV, which is an older smart TV that has limited apps available, I installed a Roku. I am saving a ton of money, and feel like I have way more options.
You just need to remember to cancel the trials when they are over. That is my downfall.
We got a Vizio smart TV for Christmas in 2019 which came in very handy when everyone was home in 2020. I've never watched so much in my life. :)
I cut cable over a year ago and couldn't be happier! If you get the app News on on your smart tv, then you could watch your local.news for free.
