Stone Ladybug Garden Ornaments

Vote for this contest contender!

This is a fun craft for the garden, made from the garden! I collected the roundest stones I could find in my backyard, painted them to look like ladybugs, then placed them all around the garden. Such a fun pop of colour! This is a great all-ages craft.

Total Time: 1 hour

Yield: 5 ladybug stones

Supplies:

Steps:

  1. Throughly clean and dry the stones you find. Paint them with a coat of red paint and allow to dry.
  2. If the stone has a narrower area, use it to paint on a black semicircle for the face.
  3. Now paint a straight black line from the middle of the face all the way to the back.
  4. Paint a curved triangle on the back. This will create the slight spreading of the ladybug wings.
  5. Gently dot some black spots onto the back. They can be of varying sizes.
  6. On the face, use a smaller paintbrush, or flip your brush over and use the narrow tip, to dot on white for eyeballs and blue for pupils.

Thanks so much, both of you :) It was a great stress relief to paint them, truly. I put them in my friend's planter without telling her and when she walked by them, she screamed with joy!

I can sure imagine your friend seeing those adorable Ladybugs in her planter, they're so darn cute! :)

I think they'd look absolutely adorable too in indoor plant pots.
Gosh, anywhere they'd look totally sweet!

Next time we're out on one of our picnic's or camp trips, I'm going to be on the search for smooth round rocks like that that you've used.

I'll be like Lucy in the movie, *The Long Long Trailer* - but much smaller ones than she loaded up. hehehe

I just love these. :)

I have been so lucky! I found a bag of just the right size stones in a local thrift store for $1 and I would have passed it by if I had not seen your post. Now I'm waiting for just the right day to do um up.
