The Pristine Rose In Bud Form

Gold Post Medal for All Time! 523 Posts

The Pristine Rose In Bud Form - pale pink roseI was at the checkout with this reduced by 60%, 'Pristine' rose, when an attractive, very refined lady mentioned that she had been looking everywhere for this particular variety. I told her there were a couple left on a bargain rack. She was ecstatic! Unsure of where she should look, I walked with her to the rack.

I now see that during the course of selecting the rose and walking back to checkout, this very well to do lady gave several clues, (in a manner Emily Post would find in good taste), that she would like to make my acquaintance. I missed every one.

Aging can play havoc with the mental faculties, I'm a prime example. It can also be selective in that it has not diminished my capacity to appreciate beauty, either in the form of an attractive lady or in the form of a rose named 'Pristine' so coveted by that lady.

This 4 ft hybrid tea is repeat blooming, has excellent disease resistance, and a strong fragrance. Bred by Warriner, it was introduced in the US by Jackson and Perkins, 1978.

Better start refining that male instinct to the same state you've refined your roses.
Maybe there will be another chance in the future??

Linda,

It's good of you to assume the best. That kind of attitude makes for a better life.

I'm sure all we ThriftyFun members have wondered what our friends and acquaintances here look like. It's only natural. We may even have a vague notion of the physical attributes of some members. If we do, these notions could only be based on what we have read in the member's posts. Strange how what and how you write could help another person develop an idea of how you must look. Strange, but true.

I could unintentionally help another to develop an idea of how I look, an idea that is completely off base. For anyone to think I am 'apparently attractive', I must have written some things that were incorrectly construed. If this is the case here, I feel obligated to set the record straight. Here goes:

When I was a teenager, I got lots of compliments on my appearance. Most of the girls who complimented me said I looked like Ricky Nelson. Within a few short years, my looks had changed some and those who complimented me said I looked like Elvis Presley. These compliments did not cause conceit on my part, but I have to admit, they did produce a sense of well being.

A few short years later, I was often told I resembled Tom Jones. I thought to myself, 'I must have been good looking. All the girls seemed to think so. But now, whatever good looks I might have had are beginning to fade'. I didn't like my looks being compared to those of Tom Jones.

Over the course of time, the compliments stopped all together. I will say, when it comes to my physical appearance, time has not been kind to me, not kind at all. If someone's appearance could be rated as somewhat less than average, mine would probably fall into that category.

I was never vain about my appearance, but now, I try to avoid a mirror as much as possible. It took just one accidental look in a full length mirror in a department store for me to vow I would never make that mistake, again. I was shocked.

So, Linda, thanks for assuming I am 'apparently attractive'. I will attribute that opinion to your 'apparent healthy view of the world around you', rather than to some things I might have said.

My dear likekinds: You could have been talking about me. I am about the same age as you (you mentioned your age a while back) and I am a couple of years older than you. I too was once pretty and now I avoid mirrors. I see so many women who have aged so much better than I.

However! Over time, I've read your posts and I rather think that I, and all the rest of us out here, pretty much know what kind of person you are. I think you have a beautiful soul, a kind heart and a wondrous nature. A beautiful soul shines through for others to see. That is, no doubt, what the fine lady saw in you.

I wholeheartedly agree with the comments Linda made in describing how you come across to your faithful followers on this site. It would be very difficult to imagine one of us meeting you in person and judging you by your outer physical appearance - if we even noticed.

Carry on and smile when you look in the mirror.

Here, we have the rose in a more open state.
