Tiny Black Bug in Pantry?

A small black bug on a floor.I found this bug on my pantry floor. Looked around and they were around a sealed bag of rice. Then I found some in a jar of raw chickpeas. There is none in the flour. I looked through rice flour, chick pea flour and millet flour I have in the pantry. There were none in either of these flours. Is this rice weevil or beetle?

I have thrown the rice and the chickpeas away but I still find them on the floor about 1 or 2 a day but don't know where they are coming from. Checked all other items in the pantry and there is nothing in those items. How do I get rid of them. If you download and enlarge the picture, you can see the bug quite clearly.

You'll need to remove *everything* from your pantry and wherever else you store grains, vacuum thoroughly, and then wash all surfaces with soap and water, then dry (can place a portable fan there to help). Place *all* grains and "all* packaged products made from grain (e.g., pasta, cereal, popcorn) in containers with tightly fitting lids; ziplock bags are not secure enough.

Some people say placing small capfuls of eucalyptus oil or clove oil in dark corners of the pantry will help keep pests at bay as well. Good luck!

This is none as Elateridae- Better known as a Click Beetle. One of thousands in the Beetle family. Harmless to humans, but they love vegetation. - en.wikipedia.org/.../click_beetle

You undoubtedly have one of the 'pantry' beetles (there are several but not much difference in type of damage they do.
The best methods may be to remove everything from your pantry and leave it empty over night and that way you can be sure there are no bugs hiding in the pantry.

You can place all of your grain products in the freezer as this will kill the bugs also. It is okay to remove them after the one night in the freezer.
You will also be able to see if any bugs are on the counter where you stored your other groceries overnight.
Once you find a bug it is best to put every type of grain food in secure containers; even if it is just freezer baggies or double regular baggies but sealable containers are best.
There are some plastic containers that are very good (maybe 4 lock down pieces) but I do not trust the 'common' plastic containers that some people use.
I use Diatomaceous Earth because I know it works for almost every bug but others use herbs and such. If you clean it properly and fix your food in containers you'll probably take care of the bug problem.

It looks like a grain beetle. Store things in glass jars from now on. Take everything out of the cabinets and use an insecticide to kill the bugs.

I've dealt with this too. I keep a lot of food items in the freezer, like rice, flour and sugar. The rest gets put into glass containers and is used up regularly.

It sounds like you have a lot of good advice. One other thing that I have heard is that pet food or treats are a likely source for these pests. People don't think about them and they often sit for many months before being used up.

Good luck!

You have to thoroughly clean the cabinet. They are likely in something else in the grain family, cereal, flour... throw away anything that is not in a sealed jar or can or plastic container. Sprinkle the cupboard or panty with Boric acid or Mule Team Borax leave over night then vacuum out. Always store flour in the refrigerator and put cereals in plastic containers. Bugs were probably already in flour or cereal and hatched while sitting for a long time.
