How much is this worth in good condition?
This site lists and sell old disctionaries. it is a good site to watch for the sales of these items. Right now none have been sold that match yours. That makes it harder to give you a price for yours. www.collectorsweekly.com/
https://www.answers.com values this book between $130 to $350 depending on the collector, condition, offer details .There are a lot of collectors out there , if advertise in the right venue!
I found this book in my mom's house after she passed. Websters Encyclopedic Dictionary, copyright 1940-1941. Wondered if it was worth anything. Thanks.
It's worth about $15. If that's not worth the trouble for you to sell, please keep in mind donating it to your local theater troupe. Large, old books are almost always welcome for set decor and sometimes props.
What is the value of a 1949 Websters Dictionary set in great condition?
to illustrate the perils of assuming things without taking the effort to actually look them up (time-saving though such measures might be), on ebay I saw everything ranging from $40 to $88 www.ebay.com/
it does look to be in very good condition.
of course the caveat is "are people actually BUYING these things?" That's a different question, and the answer most like is, no. These sort of commodities move very slowly.
So from a pure appraisal value the book is probalby worth at least $50. From a utilitarian standpoint (as in, can i convert it to cash straightaway) the answer is probably no, not much value there
I was wondering about the worth of the New Twentieth Century Dictionary, unabridged. 1943 is the publish date I believe.
Thank you.
My husband is an auctioneer and we often see these books at auctions. Right now, the book is bacisally not worth anything. In a few hundred years, if it is in great condition, it will be worth something.
What is the value of a Webster's International Dictionary from 1928 (India paper edition)?
Many people think old Dictionaries have a value. Your dictionary is from 1928. Therefore, it isn't 100+ years old.
I have a 1872 Webster's dictionary unabridged. It's not perfect and has had some kind of previous moisture issues. The book is still intact with pages and spine, outside covers are just worn from discoloration.
Is it worth anything? I'm having trouble finding information about it.I found Rare 1875 Antique Vintage Webster's unabridged Dictionary with illustrations, some pages are separated and the covers are loose. The price is US $220 www.ebay.com/
Rare 1863 Webster's Dictionary Unabridged Pictorial Edition 1500 Illustrations is on sale for US $550 www.ebay.com/
Thus, the price of your Rare 1872 Webster's Dictionary Unabridged is about US $300
I would like to ask if you know the value of this edition of a Webster Dictionary. I think is the 1847 edition a little bit after his death. I am not familiar with old book prices. The front page that says the publisher before the preface is missing. Also I cannot read the hand-written letters. I would really appreciate if anyone could type them down!
Thank you in advance.
Considering the condition of your dictionary, I would lean toward a very low value - slow selling unless you have some maps or other illustrations that are in pristine condition. Older dictionaries are not that scarce and yours appears to be in poor condition - cover and pages. Not many collectors and they want excellent condition unless there is something about it that makes it 'unusual'.
It's possible the inscription could mean something but I think it is just from a wife giving it to her husband for his birthday. Perhaps the name means something to somebody but I have not found anything that would verify that.
Since no one has tried to transcribe the inscription I have given it a little time and research.
Here is what I have deciphered so far:
Presented to my own Darling for
His Birthday Aug - 24 - 1914 - at
Boummouth the year the Horrible
War broke out & we were at Boummouth.
From His ever loving wife
Phillis
Oh Lord be though one Wu?? ???
I believe this is correct for the most part but others may see it differently.
This refers to a town/city called Boummouth but I cannot find a reference showing what that it still exists or if the name was changed.
When researching Boummouth the search keeps going to another similar city - Bournemouth - but this is not the same city and Boummouth did not change to Bournemouth.
Both cities are in England and were probably near each other but there is no reference showing Boummouth, England on any map that I could find.
There are several sites showing this city did exist but no location found.
The first link shows this soldier was in Boummouth at one time.

"Goodrich's New and Revised Edition appeared on 24 September 1847, and a Revised and Enlarged edition in 1848, which added a section of illustrations indexed to the text."
Perhaps someone else can help you further.
Should you decide to try and sell your book, you should be sure to show any maps or illustrations as this will be what may sell.
Set whatever price you wish and lower it if no takers.
I am looking to see what my copyright 1884, Webster's Condensed Dictionary may be worth? Thank you!
Although this book was published in 1884 there are still a large selection available on the market so it is not really that rare.
I have an 1855 Webster's dictionary. The pages are in good condition, but the cover is worn. It is leather bound.
You can go to an auction house for antiques and talk with them. The issue here would be the condition of the cover. I'd say that you should be able to sell this for around $100 - 150 easily. The price is always based on the supply and demand plus the condition of the book. Your best best is to talk with a person at an auction house and see what they can tell you about the price range they are selling for.
I have a 1934 Abbot's Selected Webster's Dictionary of the English Language. The cover is messed up, but how much do you think it would be worth?
As of today the books aren't worth too much at all. Today they consider books 100+ years old have value. As for yours, they are still not old enough to be worth much. You have two choices. Box them up and keep them around for a few more years or you can try selling them off. You won't get that much for them if you try to sell them now.
I have a book I'm looking for the correct selling price. It is a Salva-Webster's dictionary (gold letters) - English-Spanish and Spanish-English. It was compiled by Dn.
J. Gomez, PhD. It included a geographical and biographical encyclopedia and colored maps. It is the new and thoroughly revised edition 1938.If you tried to sell this now, you'd not earn much on it. Too bad it is a bit older because all books over 100 years can earn a good price. This book can still have value and the only way to find out for sure is through an auction house in your area. They would be the best people to contact to appraise this book for you.
I am trying to find value of a dictionary I own. It is a Webster's - An American Dictionary of the English Language, published in 1900.
It is a revised edition of the original dictionary first published in 1828.What is the value of a Webster's Twentieth Century Dictionary published by Publishers Guild, Inc. in New York, NY in 1939?
Many people have old books they think are valuable and would like to sell. Most old dictionaries, references etc., have very little value-a few dollars at most. Encyclopedias dated after 1923 are essentially worthless but crafters may be interested for the old pictures. Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc., receive donations of tons of old encyclopedias and reference books but send them to recycling centers or dumps as they cannot use or sell them.
You can check online for old book collectors, on EBay, Craigslist and other retail sites for possibilities. Everything is now online and updated constantly so old books are just that-old.
How much is a 1937 Webster Popular Illustrated dictionary worth?
I have a 1961 Webster illustrated dictionary and want to know its value.
