A paper clip works well as a bookmark, especially if you are carry books in a bag or backpack. The paperclip won't fall out the way a loose bookmark can.

As one of Jehovah's Witnesses, I use my Bible on a daily basis. My Bible only has 1 piece of ribbon as a place mark. During my Bible reading, I find a lot of Scriptures I would like to remember, so this is what I did.

I bought a spool of inexpensive narrow ribbon. I measured the length of my book and doubled it twice. So I end up with 2 long pieces of ribbon double the length of the book. I found a pretty 4 holed buttons and threaded the 2 pieces of ribbon in the 4 holes. Now my Bible (or any book you choose) has not 1 but 5 place markers now and a beautiful little decoration.

Most of us have extra buttons around anyway, and the spool of ribbon didn't cost me more than 50 cents.

I have lots of wallet size photos from my own kids school photos and also photos of my friends kids. I use them as book (and magazine or cookbook) markers. Right now I'm enjoying the 6 month photo of my 15 year old son. When that one gets bent or lost, I'll use another photo. When I ordered the photo packages I didn't send off all of the wallet size photos so I have plenty left. I really enjoy seeing the photos that I don't have room to display on a daily basis.

You'll never be without a bookmark if you get junk mail. Just clip off a corner of an envelope in a triangle. Either use it plain or let one of your children decorate it for you. Then just slip the corner over the page of your book to mark your place.

Since reading is one of my past times, I always have many kinds of bookmarks on hand. One of them is the simple rubber band. Every time I take a break from reading, I just insert my rubber band as my bookmark. Simple yet helpful.
