When is the best time to transplant iris?

Now is the time in southern OHIO region. Do a google search about transplanting/lifting iris bulbs in your area. Good luck!

In the south, it is the fall.

Most bulbs are best transplanted or divided after flowering has stopped and the foliage has progressed to a point where it looks dead and scraggly.

How long will the dug and dried iris survive? We are moving in 5 months and would like to take our iris with us.
