Spicy Bread Pudding

This is a great dessert, especially for cold weather. Very simple to make!


  • 3 cups bread cubes
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • Ad

  • 3 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 3 cups milk, scalded
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Lemon Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. lemon juice


Place bread cubes and raisins into a 1 1/2 quart baking dish. Combine eggs, sugar, spices, salt and vanilla with scalded milk. Pour over bread and raisins. Bake in pan of hot water at 350 degrees F for about 50 minutes, or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. This may be served plain or with lemon sauce.

Lemon Sauce: In saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch and salt. Add boiling water. Cook over low heat until thick and clear. Remove from heat. Add butter and lemon juice.

Cooking Time: 50 Minutes
