Call Your Doctor About Hives

When you first see hives, take an antihistamine and call your doctor immediately. Hives can break out on the internal organs, including the brain, in which case the swelling brain can result in aberrant behavior and hospitalization in a mental hospital. Wrongly treated hives can result in death.

Miss Bonnie, this is a really, really good post to share to warn people that hives can indeed be dangerous but please know that internal organ damage and brain swelling would be an extreme case.

Hives first affects the skin and then can begin to affect blood vessels/arteries but you would definitely know if internal organs (generally lungs and heart) were being affected long before severe damage would occur.

Assorted danger symptoms are fever, stomach ache or cramps, muscle fatigue, swelling of the tongue or throat, wheezing, or shortness of breath.

If you do not know the reasons of the hives, do not take any medication if it is creating severe medical issues. If breathing is an issue, call 911 for assistance. Hives are a reaction to something you have touched, eaten, etc. There are many levels of 9-1-1 assistance attached to this.

Medication and Food allergies are the most dangerous. Topical hives is a reaction, and the derma (skin) is reacting to what it has touched. One of the most well known is poison ivy.
