I have a beige colored couch and burgundy chair. I need to paint and get new carpet. Would sage walls and darker tan carpet or navy carpet and mushroom walls look good? Does anyone have any ideas?

I would go the sage route. I wouldn't do blue carpet, as it is too dark and might look dated.
Light sage and darker tan with dark wood is a very natural, neutral, and winning combination. Navy always strikes me as sort of 80's (70's?). Good luck.
