A small loaf of inexpensive French bread makes two different appetizers from everyday items.
Cut french bread in 1/2 inch slices discarding ends. Spread butter or margarine on top. Place on nonstick cookie sheet. On half of toasts sprinkle garlic salt then cover with shredded cheese. Place under broiler on low for 5-10 minutes until cheese is melted. Remove from oven and let cool.
On other half of toasts, spread jam then cream cheese. Top with dried cranberries.
