Blooming OnionThe simplest food you can prepare is in the spice pantry. Find a large onion and you can have instant snack or dinner. Try this very easy and gorgeous looking onion.

Ingredients:

  • white onion
  • flour
  • corn starch
  • egg
  • salt
  • pepper
  • lemon halved
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • mayonnaise
  • 400 ml water
  • oil for deep frying

Steps:

  1. Slice onion like a pie. Do not slice through the bottom, only below halfway the whole onion.

  3. Drop into boiling water and wait until it opens like a blooming flower.

  5. Remove from water and bathe in beaten egg.

  7. Coat with a mixture of flour, cornstarch, salt and pepper.

  9. Deep fry until golden brown and crisp.

  11. For the sauce, mix sugar, salt, mayonnaise, lemon squeeze and pepper. Stir thoroughly to blend well.

Cut onions into several sections, so they fan out like flowers. Be sure not to cut roots, so onion will stay together. Cover onions with buttermilk and refrigerate several hours.

1/2 cup mayo
1 tbs ketchup
2 tbs horseradish
1/3 tsp paprika
1/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp oregano
1 pinch black pepper
1/3 tsp cayenne

serve cold or warm
