Petroleum Jelly For Nickle Allergy

I have an allergy to nickle in jewelry. For years I would dip my earring wires and posts into clear nail polish, let them dry and be able to wear them for years. Lately I have found that if I dip those not coated with nail polish into petroleum jelly before slipping them into my ears, I can wear them all day. I wiggle them around to coat the hole through my ear, so it has something between me and the metal.
