Dr Pepper Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1cup margarine
  • 1 cup Dr. Pepper
  • 4 Tbsp. Cocoa
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teapsoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions

Sift together sugar and flour. In a saucepan, bring to a boil: shortening, margarine, Dr. Pepper, and cocoa. Pour over flour mixture while it is hot. Add buttermilk, eggs, soda, cinnamon and vanilla. Bake in a 13x9 inch pan at 350 degrees F for approximately 35 minutes.

While cake is baking, make icing. Take 1/2 cup margarine, 4 Tbsp. cocoa, 6 Tbsp. Dr. Pepper and bring to a boil. Add one box powdered sugar, 1 tsp. vanilla and 1 cup of chopped pecans. Spread over cake while hot.

Source: In honor of the free Dr. Pepper give away, I thought this recipe would be fun. This is an old recipe I have made for years for special birthdays. It is a very moist cake and it always gets lots of compliments. It was taken from a hosipital cookbook that was complied for a fundraiser. Enjoy, Happy Baking!
